In production for 12 months, Bound For Sea shows for the first time, how commercial ships operate in New York Harbor. The viewer goes onboard as container ships, aircraft carriers, and ATBs enter and leave the Harbor day and night. We learn the vital role tugboats play in the efficiency of ship movements, how the U.S. Coast Guards Vessel Traffic Service monitors activity in the Harbor, and the training of harbor pilots on the Bridge Simulator at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point. The film provides a rare and fascinating glimpse into this underappreciated aspect of New York Harbor.
